Chicxulub Puerto Village in Municipality of Progreso

Located very close to Progreso is Chicxulub Puerto, a village on the Gulf Coast.

This small fishing port has sandy beaches lapped by crystal clear and calm water.

Its hotel infrastructure is limited, but it has small hotels, condominiums, and villas that will give you rest and tranquility.

In the local Mayan language, Chicxulub means either "the devil’s flea" or "tail of the devil" and refers to a massive asteroid that landed here millions of years ago.

The Chicxulub Crater is a large meteorite crater. This is the center of the impact crater that scientists believe was made when the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs smashed into the Earth’s surface.

It is partly in the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico and partly underwater.
