Chicxulub Pueblo, is small town about 12 miles outside of Merida and is known for its proximity to the Chicxulub crater, an impact crater formed by an asteroid or comet approximately 66 million years ago. The town's name, derived from the Yucatec Maya language, means 'the devil's flea'.
